This can be achieved using stationary-shear cut-to-length lines, where the coil stops during shearing, or flying-shear cut-to-length lines, which cut the coil while it moves, allowing for continuous processing.

This is important for specialized applications where the quality of the edge finish affects the performance or aesthetics of the final product. This process is particularly important for applications requiring high precision and safety, such as the aerospace and automotive industries.

This is achieved using coil keepers and hold-down arms that secure the coil during processing.

Straighteners and Levelers: These machines are essential for preparing the steel coil for further use by removing the “coil set” (the natural curve of coiled steel) and correcting defects like wavy edges and center buckling (oil-canning). For processing Advanced High-Strength Steels (AHSS), which have higher tensile strength, straighteners, and levelers are designed with stronger materials and more closely spaced rollers to handle the material’s unique properties.
  2. Tensioning Devices and Recoilers: Tensioning devices ensure even tension is maintained throughout the slitting process, preventing the slit coils from winding unevenly. Recoilers then take the slit coils and wind them onto an expandable mandrel, allowing for easy handling, storage, and transportation of the processed material.
